What is Oral and maxillo facial surgery?

Oral and maxillofacial surgery focuses on face reconstruction, surgeries of injured face, head, neck, mouth ,teeth , oral cavities, and cosmetic surgery of the face. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon handles the whole craniomaxillofacial group: lips, teeth, ears, skull, heads and necks, and the related structures. Oral and maxillofacial surgery might require a degree in medicine, dentistry or both in accordance with national jurisdiction.


An oral and maxillofacial surgeons should have fellowship training in these areas:

Reconstructive dentistry includes a variety of treatments and procedures for removing broken teeth, restoring injured teeth, fixing wrongly seated mandibular joints and bites, resolving jaw and gum injury, replacing dental wear and tears and also, curing mouth diseases.
